Would You Like to Listen to Shania Twain’s Comeback Single?

Not counting 2011's charming if forgettable*Today Is Your Day” (an accompaniment to her OWN documentary series) and a dull cover of “Endless Love” featuring Lionel Ritchie, Shania Twain has not released a proper single in 12 years. But that all changes today, as the best-selling female country artist of all freaking time has just released the first official single off her upcoming comeback album, Now.

In the grand country tradition of turning a story about heartbreak into a jaunty, banjo-heavy (synth banjo-heavy?) ditty, “Life’s About to Get Good” is about a scorned woman who, despite everything, is certain everything’s going to improve... even though her shitty ex ruined her life by cheating on her with some homewrecker a few counties over.

While the verses are filled with dreary lyrics like “I wasn’t just broken, I was shattered,” the chorus is decidedly more optimistic:

Life’s about joy, life’s about pain

It’s all about forgivin’ and the will to walk away

I’m ready to be loved, and loved the way I should

Life’s about, life’s about to get good

It’s no “That Don’t Impress Me Much”—hell, it’s no “I’m Gonna Getcha Good” (red disc version)—but it is Shania, and that cause for celebration.

* “Forgettable” is actually a lie because I saw her perform this in Vegas in 2012 and I listen to it sort of often?
