Will Smith Compliments Aunt Viv In an Interview Despite Her Disses

On Monday, Will Smith did his best polite sidestep when asked whether he preferred the first or second Aunt Viv during The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, just weeks after the former, Janet Hubert, cursed him and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith on Facebook. Look at what money can do!

In case you’ve forgotten Hubert’s recent fiery rant, here’s a taste directed at Jada: “Miss Thing, does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?”

During an interview with A.Dot on BBC’s online radio station 1Xtra, Smith was asked in the last few moments what he thought of Hubert versus the second Aunt Viv, Daphne Maxwell Reid. He laughed his usual fake-but-sincere-sounding chuckle and said “Both of the Aunt Vivs were really, really fantastic” and even called Hubert “brilliant.”

See what he did there? Oh, there’s more politeness to come.

“I think as an artist there’s so many things that she does,” Smith said, ramping up for some serious niceties. “She sings, she dances, she’s like a really powerful artist. I loved what she brought to the Fresh Prince.”

Like Beyoncé says in “Formation,” “always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper” and Smith is pretty fucking rich. He also said that he’s still boycotting the Oscar’s with Pinkett-Smith, and joked that he may have given his kids, Jaden and Willow, too much creative freedom. But if it weren’t for their freedom, how could Jaden wow us with his tweets and fashion choices?
