Maria Bamford is a damn delight and watching her struggle with a relationship, work, and mental health issues is actually fun.
The trailer for Season 2 of Lady Dynamite basically opens with a series of tongue-in-cheek jokes about what the show even is, and the promise to destigmatize mental illness forever by displaying Bamford’s wild life. Bamford has spoken openly about her mental health and integrated it into her comedy, so a joke about the high expectations on her show is perfect.
But if you’re not sold on Bamford (what?!), the season will feature a slew of comedy heavy-hitters, including Ana Gasteyer, Judd Apatow, Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen, David Spade, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Jenny Slate, Judy Greer and Jason Mantzoukas, plus her goofy hot dog costume-wearing boyfriend played by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. The two even engage in foreplay with an actual power drill, making the whole thing even more relatable.
