I consider it my sworn duty to be bold and honest when communicating with you, my devoted Hair Cariacs. That’s why I’m going to do something I haven’t done before and share some news about myself. Normally I consider myself just a strict journalist, here to report highlights from the hair news of recent weeks’ past. But I also don’t think it would be fair to, again, my beloved readers, to withhold some very important information, which is:
I CUT MY HAIR INTO A BOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, it was sort of accidental; I went to my hairdresser to get a chop from my grown-out, almost shoulder-length locks that were ratty and really bugging me now that it’s officially white jean shorts season, but didn’t mean to go shorter than a little past my chin. But what I got was a real live bob! From lob to bob! And yes, I was surprised, but as I’ve always said, hair grows back and life is about living!! (And about drinking frosé all day, natch.) Anyway, the cut is getting some fab responses from my coworkers which feels very nice indeed! Hopefully I can be your hair inspo of the week, along with all the lovely ladies I’m about to feature.
Onto them!
Via Vogue, here’s some important news about the always-bold Lena Dunham’s new hair choice. Now, those of you who follow Lena on the gram might have seen that it’s been a hard week for her, so it’s nice to see her doing something for herself. Hashtag self care, am I right!
(It doesn’t hurt that she matches her dad—adorable!)
Vogue also points out her important call to charity work that should prompt us all to think carefully about ways we too can give to others, even as we’re trying to look and feel our personal best:
In a later post, she shared a snap of her newly shorn auburn ponytail lamenting that it wasn’t long enough to donate to Locks of Love, but urging her followers to do so if they’re considering a major hair switch-up.
Okay moving on to Refinery!!! who has done it again, providing historical context for Kaia Gerber’s new look (god, I just love learning):
I know this next graf is going to be controversial, but please—it’s important that we all communicate respectfully and acknowledge our shared place as qweens:
The shag style has been reinventing itself for a while. While the layered, feathered cut shot to fame four decades ago, it’s only now that Hollywood is bringing it back. Starting with Gerber.
Thoughts?? Some might say this is a huge snub to Goddess Sally Hershberger’s infamous updating of the shag, while others could argue that it’s merely taking the definition of the shag literally. Wherever you land, everyone can agree that Kaia looks adorable here:
Now onto Khloe Kardashian. Close followers of Khloe’s every-evolving looks have definitely noticed that she loves to switch back and forth between short and long locks perhaps even more than her sister does, and now, we’ve got an answer as to why and how she does it.
Refinery (again, bless them!) has secrets from the woman behind the weave, who has apparently been working with her for years.
They summarize:
In a post on Khloé With a K, the reality star explained the reason why she opted to weave up while she was still a teen and revealed the woman who installs her extensions: Maisha Oliver. “After my dad died and I lost the majority of my hair, Maisha made me these great weaves to conserve the hair I still had and help it get healthy again,” she wrote. “My natural long hair is protected underneath it all.”
The more you know!
And lastly (but never leastly), this is just a little tidbit of fun, but did you know that Sophie Turner is really blonde??!?!
I’ve been seeing Sophie’s hair as blonde for quite some time, but I didn’t realize exactly how much work it was to keep it red. Elle shares this fun fact with us, and a perusal of her Instagram confirms that in her off-time from the show, she returns to (a variation) of her original color:
For comparison, here’s a cute pic. I love it when actors can get past the devastating behavior of their characters and bond off-screen. So moving.
I’m leaving you with that adorbs image ladies (and dudes!! hehe). Please share any looks you’re loving or losing in the comments, and remember, as Audrey Hepburn said: be BOLD.
