Teens Found After Being Lost in Paris Catacombs for 3 Days

Two teenagers were taken to the hospital on Wednesday after being found in the Paris catacombs. The Guardian reports that the teenagers, aged 16 and 17, had been lost somewhere in the 200 miles of bone tunnels, which have an ambient temperature of around 59 degrees fahrenheit, or 15 degrees celsius. Both were treated for hypothermia after rescue workers found them early in the morning on their third day there.

A spokesman for the Paris fire department said that, as usual, we should be grateful for dogs: “It was thanks to the dogs that we found them.”

Certain parts of the catacombs are open to the public, but the majority of the galleries have been off-limits since 1955. That doesn’t stop daredevils and very cool teens from breaking in through various secret entrances around the city.

No one is exactly sure how the teens got in there, or who notified authorities that they probably needed help, but, happily, their bones did not join those of the six million other souls down there.
