Anton Yelchin, the actor best known for playing Chekov in J.J. Abrams’ rebooted Star Trek films, has died at the age of 27 in a car crash on Sunday morning.
Yelchin’s publicist Jennifer Allen confirmed the Star Trek star’s death from a car collision which occurred near his home in San Fernando Valley. According to TMZ, he was pinned between his own vehicle and a mailbox, and died on-scene. It is unclear how the accident happened, but police have since ruled out foul play.
Other than his iconic Star Trek role, Yelchin was known for starring in the teen comedy Charlie Bartlett, the thriller Alpha Dog, and a number of indie films, including Like Crazy, which he co-starred in with Felicity Jones.
As of now, the Yelchin family is requesting privacy at this time.
We will update as this story unfolds.
