Spotlight Director Will Make a Mini-Series About the Roger Ailes Scandal

In another piece of uncomfortable news for Roger Ailes, the New York Times reports that Spotlight director Tom McCarthy will be the executive producer for a new miniseries about the ousted Fox News CEO and the many allegations of sexual harassment and abuse against him. New York magazine’s Gabriel Sherman, who has spent years uncovering more and more upsetting stories about Ailes, will also work on the series.

The Times reports that the series, which is still untitled, will use The Loudest Voice in the Room, Sherman’s deeply reported and very unflattering book about Ailes, as source material. It’s also being produced by Jason Blum, who also did The Jinx, HBO’s extremely damning series about Robert Durst.

As if that weren’t enough about Ailes and his genitals that allegedly resemble raw hamburger, Vanity Fair reports that Megyn Kelly is adding a chapter in her forthcoming book about him. The book is due out November 15.

Sherman and Vanity Fair contributing editor Sarah Ellison said at a panel sponsored by the magazine that they’ve both heard the same piece of good gossip: that Ailes and his previously good buddy Donald Trump have had some kind of falling out and are no longer talking, possibly over debate prep:

“Ailes’s camp said Ailes learned that Trump couldn’t focus—surprise, surprise—and that advising him was a waste of time,” Sherman said. “These debate prep sessions weren’t going anywhere.”

On the Trump side, Ellison said the story is different: “Even for the second debate, Ailes kept going off on tangents and talking about his war stories while he was supposed to be prepping Trump.”

And that is deeply sad, because when two awful people can’t remain friends, what hope is there for the rest of us? The answer: the same amount of hope as always.
