Scott Speedman Says If He'd Had Instagram During Felicity He Would've 'Pulled an Anthony Weiner'

In an extremely charming appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night, Kerri Russell and Scott Speedman seem to have a very grounded grasp of their levels of current fame, and a wise understanding of the dangers facing a young stars with social media accounts.

Both the Felicity actors were in town for Russell’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony earlier that same day. The two dated for a time during the filming of their show, and remain good friends. It’s really a pleasure to watch people who actually seem to like each other make jokes about how terrible they once were. Or how terrible Speedman was. Talking about social media, Speedman says that as a famous 24-year-old on the WB he would have been sunk.

“If there was like Instagram back then, I don’t know if I would’ve survived,” he said. “I’d be in a shack in Portland by now. I would’ve pulled an accidental Anthony Weiner.”

I think we can all picture that.

They also, of course, discussed the notorious haircut Russell got in between seasons. It was an actual plot point of the show, not some random womanly impulse, despite how Russell was portrayed in the media.

“We were actually dating at the time and I had been such a disaster of a boyfriend up until [then],” explained Speedman. “And I knew I had to put on a good show. I knew I was going to see her new haircut and I was like, ‘Come on man, you got to bring it home. You gotta do it.’ And I got to work and she turned around the corner and my face sort of froze in a half panic, half smile sort of situation. I just didn’t pull it off and she called me out.”

“It was a Chia head sort of look,” he added.

Russell clarified: “Chia Pet.”

There was also some discussion of a Felicity reunion, à la Gilmore Girls. Speedman implies that while he has nothing to do and would be thrilled to appear on Lifetime, Keri Russell has got other things going on:

I’d watch. They’re cute.
