In a forthcoming full-length interview with the Today show, Robin Wright is asked if there were any flags concerning Kevin Spacey’s alleged predatory behavior on set. Her response? Pretty much a classic “I don’t know her.”
Wright says:
Kevin and I knew each other between action and cut and in between setups where we would giggle. I didn’t really, I didn’t know the man. I knew the incredible craftsman that he is.
She added, as reported by Today, “we were co-workers, really. We never socialized outside of work” and characterized their relationship as “respectful, professional.” “That’s the only thing I feel that I have the right to talk about,” Wright says. Though she also says she hasn’t had any contact with Spacey. “I don’t even know how to reach him,” she says.
Multiple people who have worked on the House of Cards set have described Spacey groping or making lewd comments to younger men on set. And after allegations against Spacey arose last year, House of Cards briefly suspended production before firing the actor, making Wright the star of the show, and adding angel Diane Lane in a move I can only assume was specifically designed for me to start watching the show again.
Update, 12:07: A representative for the studio behind House of Cards reached out to offer this correction:
Thank you for covering the Robin Wright story. However, there’s a typo in your article. Robin said, “I don’t know the man.” It should be “him” instead of “her” in the headline and in the first paragraph. It also links to a dated Mariah Carey article.
And two minutes later emailed back with:
LOL I just read it again…you were referencing that article. I understand now. My apologizes.
