Deadline reported on Thursday that Netflix has renewed its throwback women’s wrestling series GLOW for a 10-episode second season.
GLOW stands for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling and fairly accurately describes the critical reception to the show as well its character’ metallic sparring outfits. It’s executive-produced by Jenji Kohan, who also also worked on Orange Is the New Black and whose next endeavor is reportedly about a wealthy runaway bride who gets stuck at a Renaissance Fair.
GLOW is set in Los Angeles circa 1985 and stars Alison Brie playing a spirited but struggling actress named Ruth Wilder who finds acceptance and empowerment working with a troupe of semi-performative female wrestlers. (I’ve only seen the trailer, that’s the best I can do, but please discuss speculative season 2 plot lines, controversial season 1 moments, spandex Halloween costume ideas, etc, amongst yourselves!)
