On Tuesday, NeNe Leakes, former housewife and star of stage and screen, stopped by The View to promote her stint as Matron Mama Morton in Chicago (the role all celebrities play just to remind us they’re here, if you’re not familiar). Unfortunately for her, things went down in flames. Fortunately for us, we get to see the fallout.
The interview started off badly—partially because NeNe thinks she’s still someone without the Real Housewives platform—when Joy Behar (“I said it! So what? Who cares?”) began asking difficult questions about the reality star’s personal life, including some hard-hitting Qs about why Nene got a divorce if she loves being married so much. That seems like a pretty valid question and a really easy way for NeNe to promote love and happiness and peace and whatever, but you don’t just ask an Atlanta diva questions she doesn’t want to answer.
According to Radar, Leakes immediately began to bite back at Behar, even mocking her questions during the segment. What she didn’t know, however, (probably because she hasn’t read Behar’s first book and I have) is that you do not fuck with Joy Behar when she’s trying to conduct a serious interview on hot topics. So when NeNe refused to answer questions about her divorce, the long-time talkshow host went after the lack of furniture in NeNe’s house instead.
First of all, I have no idea why Nene was showing off pictures of her house in the first place, but what I really want to know is why none of the pictures of the interior have any furniture in them. So did Behar. NeNe’s response? A couple of eye rolls and a half-baked explanation about security measures. Listen, you and I both know that no one’s coming inside NeNe’s house to steal her collection of wigs and carnival glass, but it would have been so much better if she’d just admitted that she hadn’t decorated her new “pied-a-terre” yet instead of pretending all of us were outside her slate-gray castle trying to force our way in to drink all her mineral water and eat her cheesy poofs.
After the show, NeNe took to Twitter to release the following statement, which she quickly deleted when she realized that she couldn’t afford the negative publicity:
“Just sat down with a bunch of mean girls turning up their noses, looking u up & down as if u don’t belong,” the 47-year-old wrote, adding, “the HATE was so real & SAD.”
Dang, NeNe, WTF? Raven-Symoné was even trying to keep the whole thing together and you turned on her? How do you expect the ladies of The View to support you when you land the role of Mrs. Potts in the touring production of Beauty and the Beast with that kind of attitude? What will they say when you’re cast as She by Sheree’s understudy in the local community theater production of Sunset Boulevard? Did you ever think of that?
No comment from the ladies of The View yet, but let’s hope one is forthcoming. (Not from Candace Cameron-Bure, though. What is she still doing here?)
