Listen to St. Vincent's Trippy New Pop Song 'Pills'

A few months ago we were delighted to learn that not only was model-actress-sort-of-singer Cara Delevingne going to get a guest spot on St. Vincent’s new record, but her pseudonym for the recording was “Kid Monkey.” And now Kid Monkey’s debut is finally here!

The song, “Pills,” is a trippy new pop song about the exhaustive presence of, you guessed it, pills. “Pills to sleep, pills to wake, pills pills pills every day of the week,” goes the deceptively happy chorus, which sounds like something (and I don’t really mean this as a diss, because the song is good) the Oompa Loompas might sing right before you croak.

“Pills” is off of St. Vincent’s forthcoming album Masseduction, which is out this Friday. And in addition to vocals from Delevingne (who you can hear quite clearly) the song also includes backing vocals from Jenny Lewis and sax from Kamasi Washington. The whole song has a very Alice in Wonderland-inspired, demented fairy tale vibe, but Annie Clark ultimately never lets the song feel too precious.
