Bringing her family some much-needed good press, Kim Kardashian West is reportedly working with third-tier Scooby Doo villains Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump to pardon 62-year-old Alice Marie Johnson. Her file is apparently on President Trump’s desk “for review.”
Johnson, a black woman from Mississippi, was convicted of “drug conspiracy and money laundering in 1997,” when she was in her early 40s. Though they were her first criminal offenses, the single mother of five children was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole. (You can read more about her life and conviction here.)
Kardashian has brought attention to Johnson’s case in the past, so this isn’t entirely out of left field, but the current timing is useful. If your partner went on a shameful and potentially career-ruining tear at the TMZ offices, wouldn’t you perform a few good deeds in a very public manner with the help of America’s two worst dinner party guests in order to distract the media with something positive?
