Kellyanne Conway as Pennywise Is Scary, But Is It Scarier Than the Real Kellyanne?

We all have our phobias. A clown lurking in the sewers may not be yours, so how about Kellyanne Conway doing the lurking?

On this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, the nightmare well got refilled with an It parody, in which Anderson Cooper—dressed up as Georgie Denbrough—meets Kellywise the Dancing Clown. What does Kellywise want? To be put on TV, of course. That’s where she gets her power. The thing about Kellywise is that despite her horrible appearance, she promises you what your heart desires. In Cooper’s case, she assumes that what he wants is some insane soundbites that will get a lot of publicity.

“Okay, so Puerto Rico actually was worse before Hurricane Maria,” Kellywise offers. “And the hurricane actually did blow some buildings back together!”

Kate McKinnon is truly excellent as Kellyanne Conway, then as the horror movie version of Kellyanne Conway (a distinct but subtle difference) and finally as Hillary Clinton, who eventually tempts Cooper by offering him a copy of her book, What Happened. Despite warnings, he puts his arm in the storm drain, and well, you can guess what happens next.

Everyone in the 24-hour news industry floats down here. In a sewer full of poop.
