- White House chief of staff John Kelly had a wide-ranging press conference today in which he defended the president and criticized Florida Representative Frederica Wilson, calling her “selfish,” for sharing Donald Trump’s phone conversation with the recently widowed Myeshia Johnson. Kelly, who was listening to the call, praised the president for “bravely” calling the families of the four soldiers who died in Niger. “I thought at least that was sacred,” Kelly said referring to the president’s phone call. He then expressed dissatisfaction with other elements of American society that had changed, including the treatment of women. He continued: “You know when I was a kid growing up a lot of things were sacred in our country. Women were sacred, looked upon with great honor. That’s obviously not the case anymore as we’ve seen from recent cases. Life was sacred. That’s gone. Religion. That seems to be gone as well. - A lawsuit currently being heard in New York argues that Donald Trump’s “ownership of hotels patronized by foreign government officials,” is an unconstitutional violation of the emoluments clause. [The Guardian]
- Kathleen Hartnett White, Trump’s pick to lead the White House Council on Environmental Quality, doesn’t believe in climate change. In 2016, she called global warming a “kind of paganism” for “secular elites.” She’ll be in good company among the other climate change deniers that populate the Trump administration. [CNN]
