J.Crew Wants to Sell You a Wardrobe of Picnic Table Covers for Spring

J.Crew, the preppy style brand that’s suffered major financial set-backs in the last few years due to deadly sweaters and overpriced clothing, has identified a savior, they think, in gingham. It worked for Brigitte Bardot, right?

As part of its new spring collection, whose campaign stars models like Liya Kebede and Carolyn Murphy, J.Crew introduced a metric ton of gingham: jackets, shoes, scarves, and even pants. Jenna Lyons, creative director, president, and unofficial spokesperson for the brand, said of the plaid explosion to The Cut, “What do Brigitte Bardot, Sean Connery, Goldie Hawn, and J.Crew have in common? Damn good gingham looks.”

Sure, Brigitte looked like a picnic table, but a glamorous one. Bardot donned a wedding dress made of gingham in 1959, The Cut notes, kicking off the trend. Sean Connery and Goldie Hawn followed suit.

Are you going to let gingham (and picnic tables, and Bardot) into your heart and wardrobe this spring?
