Is This a Fucking Snake, Taylor?

Just days after deleting all the content on her social media accounts, Taylor Swift has posted a mysterious video to both her Instagram and Twitter feeds. It is 10 seconds long, it is completely silent, and it appears to be a fucking snake.

If you don’t know why its notable that the pop star appears to be announcing new music with fucking snake imagery of all things, allow me to take you on a trip back in time to July 2016. After months of publicly engaging in he-said/she-said/she-said statements over whether or not Swift gave her husband Kanye West permission to call her a “bitch” in his song “Famous,” Kim Kardashian posted a series of videos of Swift appearing to give her blessing to the rapper over the phone.

Before long, Swift was branded a “snake” by fans (and, apparently, Kim) for misrepresenting the exchange, and the slithering green emoji became code for Taylor Swift.

(As was revealed last week in a piece from Wired, Instagram used the incident to test a feature now available to everyone that allows an individual to block an emoji from being posted in their comments).

And now, some 13 months later, Swift appears to be embracing the name.

I assume we’ll all find out exactly what this means sometime this week. Who knows, maybe her next single will come slithering onto streaming services during the eclipse! According to Swift’s long-time music video collaborator Joseph Kahn, it may happen sooner than that!
