Rapper Iggy Azalea went off on Daily Mail reporter Ryan Smith on Monday morning after he wrote (and later retracted) a story claiming she and ex-fiancé Nick Young went on a “dinner date” in Los Angeles Sunday night.
The piece, originally titled “Iggy Azalea enjoys dinner date with ex-fiancé Nick Young,” was based on a series of photos showing the former couple entering Craig’s around the same time, and created a minor stir, given the circumstances surrounding their breakup. But hours after it was published, Azalea took advantage of Twitter’s newly instituted 280-character limit and gave Smith a piece of her mind, writing:
The unfortunate thing about LA is there are not that many places people eat. You can be in the middle of one of the most important dinner meetings of your life; and randomly your ex and all his friends walk in the same place.
While the claim that “there are not that many places people eat” in LA, a city of 3.9 million people and nearly 9,000 restaurants, is comical at first glance, I’m willing to give Azalea a pass here. Based on the version of Los Angeles delivered to me by photo wires and gossip blogs, there are only six or seven places famous people ever go to dinner: 1) Craig’s, 2) Little Dom’s, 3) Nobu, 4) Mr. Chow, 5) The Ivy, 6) Sur, and 7) Au Fudge.
Smith’s piece was quickly corrected to reflect his shameful error, and Azalea went on to wish for a series of tragedies to befall him over the holiday season.
There was also this considerably tamer one about candy canes, which she has since deleted:
It was Azalea’s best freestyle in years.
