During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, our father Ted Danson—there to promote his excellent show The Good Place (we’re so proud of you, dad!)—spoke with Jimmy Kimmel about his arc on Curb Your Enthusiasm, which fictitiously had him divorced from his real life wife—our mother—Mary Steenburgen. Perish the thought!
First and foremost, Kimmel confirmed that he and Mary were still together. Of course they are. We all had a family dinner last night. Then they went on to discuss Ted’s upcoming 70th birthday and the time he called Ellen Degeneres “Helen” on air. DAD!
It also turns out that he—though most famous for his role as former baseball player (and my Halloween costume this year) Sam Malone on Cheers, he actually hates baseball and has angered Boston Red Sox players in the past.
He also told a story about how bad he is at keeping secrets. Don’t we know it! Remember the time we tried to plan Mom a surprise party? What a disaster!
Still, though, he’s our dad and flawed as he may be, we love the hell out of him.
