Amazon has released the trailer for the third season of their quirky, pleasant comedy (dramedy?), Mozart in the Jungle, and the orchestra is basically where we left them. Which is to say in shambles.
With the New York Symphony on strike, eccentric conductor Rodrigo (Gael García Bernal) has fled to Italy where he’s become enraptured with a beautiful and volatile (he has a type) opera diva Alessandra (Monica Bellucci). Back in New York, negotiations continue—though not very smoothly—with the addition of Danny Glover to the symphony board. Thankfully, Bernadette Peters and her magnificent décolletage remain to steady things—at least until oboist Hailey (Lola Kirke), newly coiffed, begins to wonder if perhaps she’s ready to take the conductor’s baton and lead the orchestra in Rodrigo’s absence.
If you had any fear that the show would lose its silly, (almost) ridiculous edge, the verbal sparring match between Dermot Mulroney and Rodrigo, in which they turn Yo Mama jokes into Yo Yo Ma jokes, should certainly put you at ease.
Season three of Mozart in the Jungle will be available to stream on Amazon on December 9.
