Grab a Tissue: Here’s a New Clip From the Amy Winehouse Doc

A clip from the upcoming Amy documentary, directed by British filmmaker Asif Kapadia, has been released, showing a glimpse into the songwriting process of Amy Winehouse.

The late singer is seen smoking a cig, laughing at how she looks “like a floating head” on camera while her former manager Nick Schmansky describes a time when they were recording demos. He had asked Winehouse if she had ever considered writing songs. “She said she’s not sure about writing songs, but she’s written a lot of poems. She knew full well she’d be writing songs but they were very personal songs,” says Schmansky.

According to Rolling Stone, even though the filmmakers claimed the Winehouse family was fully supportive of the documentary at the beginning, her relatives have since distanced themselves from the film, saying that it does “a disservice to individuals and families suffering from the complicated affliction of addiction.” Mitch Winehouse, Amy’s father, is also reported to be upset that Amy’s ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, appears in the film. The documentary is set to be released this summer. No word yet on whether Lifetime, the network known for churning out celebrity biopics like a hot dog factory, will make their own movie about the late singer.
