#GirlIGuessI'mWithHer, a Hashtag For the Slightly Queasy Clinton Voter

Hillary Clinton made history last night, clinching the Democratic party nomination (even if Bernie Sanders hasn’t quite yet found time to concede defeat). This is an interesting moment for a lot of young activists and progressives, particularly people of color, who are like... I guess?

The rush to support 2016 Clinton is still slowed for a lot of folks by 1996 Clinton’s invocation of imaginary black “super-predators,” and her difficulty discussing that past support for racist “anti-crime” policies with young voters today. It’s slowed when Bill gets into shouting fights with Black Lives Matter protesters, and it’s slowed by her extreme hawkishness, her general enthusiasm for military intervention, and her historic support for what we can go ahead and call the carceral state.

But then, well, you look over at the racist, sexist block of aged Cheddar on the other side, and there’s only one conclusion. Enter Mad Black Thot, a popular blogger and Twitter user who created the hashtag for these times of emotional and intellectual whiplash:

The hashtag quickly began trending Tuesday night:

And whether you’re uncomplicatedly celebrating Clinton’s historic win or inching your way towards November wincing and clutching the Advil, we can all join Chrissy Teigen in saying, loudly, “No, this does not mean you need to vote for Donald Trump, you ass.”
