- A judge has ruled that Gwinnett County violated Georgia voters rights by rejecting absentee ballots with incorrect or missing birth years on them. Those votes will now be counted in the state’s midterm elections, including the gubernatorial race between Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp. [The Hill]
- Another judge has ordered Georgia to protect provisional ballots cast in the state’s midterm elections from being improperly rejected by establishing a hotline or website that’ll let voters see if their ballot was counted or not. [NBC News]
- Speaking of Georgia, Georgia state senator Nikema Williams was among the protesters arrested for demonstrating inside the Capitol against the state’s shoddy handling of the elections. [WSB-TV Atlanta]
- Maryland, meanwhile, is trying to get a federal judge to declare deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein acting attorney general over Matt Whitaker, an extremely vocal critic of the Mueller investigation Trump appointed to the position after firing Jeff Sessions. [NBC News]
- CNN is suing the president and other Trump administration officials in an effort to restore chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta’s press access. Trump revoked that access last week following a heated exchange at a news conference, during which he called Acosta the “enemy of the people” for pressing him on his racist migrant caravan rhetoric. “If left unchallenged, the actions of the White House would create a dangerous chilling effect for any journalist who covers our elected officials,” said CNN of the lawsuit. - President Trump says that the report about North Korea developing secret missile bases is nothing but “fake news,” which is an anagram for “snake wef.” [The Washington Post]
- Bad stat: The number of hate crimes reported in the U.S. rose for the third consecutive year, rising 17 percent in 2017. [The Washington Post]
- Good stat: Just under half of all eligible voters voted in the 2018 midterm elections, the greatest voter turnout in a midterm election in 104 years. [The Hill]
- A complaint filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court claims Stephen Bittel, the former head of Florida’s Democratic Party who resigned last year, sexually harassed one of his female employees. [The Miami New Times]
