Gary the Dog Lookalike Makes an Appearance in The Last Jedi in Honor of Princess Carrie Fisher

It’s been almost a year since Carrie Fisher died, and I literally still think about her at least once a day. With the release of The Last Jedi, it’s more like once every 20 seconds, because every single newsfeed is clogged with Star Wars items. But this is actually a good one, because it’s about her dog, Gary.

Uproxx reports that a fan noticed a blurry little character in the background of John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran angry face-off, a limp alien critter hanging comfortably in the nook of another alien’s arm.

Look like any beloved therapy dogs we know? Director Rian Johnson has confirmed that the creature is indeed an homage to Gary and thus to Carrie Fisher:

You’ll have to see the movie (if you haven’t already in the last 12 hours) to find out if Space Gary slurps his tongue as endearingly as IRL Gary does. Probably, because Johnson clearly has an eye for detail.
