Topshop recently made it official that their changing rooms are gender neutral, but writer and performer Travis Alabanza has alleged on Twitter that they were turned away when trying to try on clothes at a Topshop location in Manchester.
The Daily Mail reports that the company officially reviewed and altered their policy in July, making all their changing rooms gender neutral. This policy change was supposedly communicated throughout the franchise, but Alabanza said on Twitter that the situation hasn’t improved.
A spokesperson gave the Daily Mail a statement reasserting their policy:
‘All TOPSHOP TOPMAN customers are free to use any of the fitting rooms located within our stores.’
A policy without implementation is just words, but at least words posted in the store can be pointed at when a bigoted employee tries to gender police.
