Students at Swarthmore and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill filed federal complaints this year accusing the universities of improperly handling sexual misconduct. Now they're facing a new form of on-campus harassment: anti-activist graffiti.
Swarthmore undergrads recently found the words "Rape Dungeon" scrawled above the door of their basement, along with "Mia survived," likely a reference to sexual assault survivor Mia Ferguson ‘15, one of the students who filed federal complaints against Swarthmore last spring.
Last month, the Courage Project at UNC — a survivor gallery/rape culture program founded by Andrea Pino, one of five complainants who filed Title IX and Clery Act complaints there in January — was vandalized by someone who wrote “whore” and “real shit” on the photo of a former UNC student survivor.
Anti-rape survivor graffiti: just another reminder to victims to keep quiet!
