Even in exile, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, continues to suck at the Trump teat. According to filings with the Federal Election Commission, Lewandowski—now a salaried commentator with CNN—received $20,000 in August from the Trump campaign.
“Corey Lewandowski, who is no longer involved in the campaign, continues to receive monthly severance payments,” Steven Cheung, a campaign spokesman, told the New York Times. “The campaign will continue to honor its contract with Mr. Lewandowski, which stipulates he will be paid through the end of the year. These payments are in no way compensation for services rendered.”
After the payments first became public last month, the Washington Post reports, CNN began prefacing all of Lewandowski’s appearances on the network with this same description—that he continues to receive severance from the campaign (his time on which he is purportedly barred from discussing in any detail by a non-disclosure agreement).
In the August FEC filings, however, the payments are not described as severance, but rather as remuneration for “strategy consulting.” And, according to the Times, Lewandowski and Trump still speak regularly.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to Jezebel’s request for comment on the discrepancy.
