In what one law enforcement source called a “reverse Psycho scene,” the remains of a man—yet to be named by police and thought to be around 50 years old—was found at the Brooklyn home of his mother, Rita Wolfensohn, a woman who is legally blind and a hoarder.
The man’s fully intact skeleton was discovered after Wolfensohn suffered a fall and had to be taken to a hospital. Later, her sister-in-law Josette Buchman went into the home to collect some supplies and discovered the remains, fully dressed and lying on a mattress, in the second bedroom.
The room, according to the New York Post, was full of garbage and cobwebs, as if, as one police source says, “a garbage truck had dumped its load” inside. The source also notes that “the room reeked of rotting food, but not of decaying flesh.”
When interrogated about her son, Wolfensohn spoke of him as though she thought he had moved out a long time ago. Family members—mostly estranged from Wolfensohn and her children—said they had not seen the man, once a taxi driver, in about 20 years.
Police believe the man died from natural causes.
