In addition to dropping her “Formation” video, commanding the Super Bowl halftime show and announcing a new tour, Beyoncé introduced a new fund to aid children suffering from lead poisoning in Flint, Michigan.
The new fund is tied to the singer’s #BeyGOOD partnership with the United Way and gives those attending her concerts a chance to give back. According to Michigan Live, she’ll be supporting the Flint Child Health and Development Fund, which was opened by the Genesee County branch of United Way in conjunction with the Community Foundation of Greater Flint to “address long-term developmental, education, nutrition and health needs of the children affected by the Flint Water Crisis.” The singer plans to announce exactly how fans can help out in via her @beygood Twitter.
Beyoncé’s Formation tour stops in Detroit on May 29; she joins Pearl Jam, Big Sean, Aretha Franklin, Jimmy Fallon, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell, and Seth Myers in giving money to the city’s crisis. Other celebrities like Puffy, Mark Wahlberg, Eminem, Wiz Khalifa and Cher have donated robust amounts of clean bottled water to residents of Genesee County.
This news also comes after Bey’s husband Jay Z’s Tidal and Roc Nation companies donated $1.5 million to Black Lives Matter last Friday, which would’ve been Trayvon Martin’s 21st birthday.
Elsewhere, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder may or may not be hiding from a Congressional hearing on the Flint water crisis on Capitol Hill. According to CNN, Snyder “declined an invitation” to testify on Wednesday before the House Democratic Committee that’s sorting out the water crisis; he has to present a fresh budget to the state legislature that day, he says.
