Not one year ago, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sat down for a rare interview with NBC’s Tom Brokaw to talk about the strength of their marriage. Now, their marriage is dead and we, the American public, are left to gather up the broken pieces in a desperate attempt at closure.
Take this nine-minute segment, which aired in November 2015, when Pitt and Jolie were doing promotional work for By the Sea, their beautiful, deeply bland drama about a two famous movie stars doing an indulgent pet project together.
“Here you have one of the most secure marriages in Hollywood, and this is about the two of you in a deeply troubled marriage,” Brokaw said. “Was this a big risk on your part?”
Here is Jolie’s response, emphasis ours:
“Well, I think—one, I’m counting on the audience to know that if it was close to us at all, we could never make this film. It’s because we’re actually very, very stable, and these aren’t our issues.”
I have not actually seen all of By the Sea, so I can’t say for sure, but a brief scan of IMDB reveals none of the issues in By the Sea involved marijuana, the co-parenting of six children, or noted moon truther Marion Cotillard, so maybe Jolie really meant it...
