Human rights attorney Amal Clooney has somehow beaten Beyoncé to the punch and given birth to twin babies with her husband George Clooney. The couple are now the proud parents of one boy and one girl—Ella and Alexander.
Ever the pranksters, Amal and George released the following statement to CNN:
“This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine,” the couple said in a statement to CNN. “George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”
Haha get it?! No seriously, why is this funny? Is the joke that George is now a 56-year-old with two newborns because yes, that is funny in a very different way.
Amal Clooney is generally an extremely impressive person, but I’d like to single out some specific props to her. Props for gestating these children in what seemed like half the time. Does it not feel like she’d only been pregnant for like three months or so? This was Amal in March, approximately six months pregnant with two babies:
While I’m a bit disappointed with the normalcy of the names, I also have to tip my hat to them for playing it safe. Lord knows their children are already facing an uphill battle as the spawn of two very successful, wealthy and attractive parents, no need to saddle them with dumb names on top of all that.
Also, while this is in no way a competition, props to Amal for somehow giving birth before Beyoncé, who has been expecting twins with her husband Jay Z for about 11 months.
