While there’s been an ongoing trend of popular television shows from the ‘80s and ‘90s returning in the form of reboots—including The X-Files, Twin Peaks, Gilmore Girls and Full House—there’s at least one sitcom we don’t have to worry about coming back: Saved by the Bell.
According to Tiffani Thiessen, previously known as Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, we will never see Zack Morris and the rest of Bayside High return. “It’s never going to happen,” Thiessen, who played cheerleader Kelly Kapowski, told Entertainment Weekly. “You’d never be able to do a reboot of that show and do a good job with it. The best thing we did was the Jimmy Fallon reunion last year. That’s as close as it will get!”
In early 2015, Thiessen reunited with former SBTB cast members, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley and Dennis Haskins in a skit on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. After the series ended in 1993, it was followed by two spin-off series, Saved by the Bell: The College Years and Saved by the Bell: The New Class.
The cast went on to star in various movies and television shows. Gosselaar starred in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Truth Be Told, while Lopez was host of The X Factor and will appear in the upcoming Grease: Live. Dustin Diamond, who played Samuel “Screech” Powers recently began a four-month jail sentence for stabbing a man in a bar in December 2014.
