Crime procedural Law & Order: SVU, well known for its “ripped from the headlines” episodes, is taking a shot at working the Harvey Weinstein scandal into a forthcoming narrative focusing on the airline industry.
The show’s executive producer, Michael Chernuchin, told Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday, “We are hitting Harvey Weinstein head-on, but it’s not in the realm of the entertainment business. It’s a really important episode about the rape culture in an industry, and we wanted to try [to] stretch the law to criminalize that sort of environment.”
Of course sexual misconduct is rampant in all industries—but why airlines? Chernuchin told EW, “We were actually working on a story about airline pilots and what a boys club that is. We were beating the story out and said, “Wow, this is exactly what the actresses go through in Hollywood. It’s the same environment.’ So we got all of our Harvey stuff out with airline pilots.”
The episode is supposed to air in 2018. And, while they’re at it, perhaps SVU would care to air its long-suppressed episode based upon our Groper-in-Chief.
In May, NBC once again pulled an episode of SVU that reportedly portrays a Trump-inspired character whose plans to run for president are stymied by a woman going public with the accusation that he raped her. Fiction, of course! The part where the assault accusation thwarts him, I mean.
