Oscar Winner Lupita Nyong'o Is 'Disappointed' By This Year's Oscar Nominations

2014's Best Supporting Actress Lupita Nyong’o has joined an ever-growing list of celebrities and members of Hollywood who have used a variation of the word “disappointed” to explain their feelings about the very white list of Oscar nominees this year.

While Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee have suggested ignoring the awards altogether might be the move, though Nyong’o “stands with my peers who are calling for change,” she captioned her post on Instagram about the Academy Awards with a James Baldwin quote. It reads: “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

And on The View yesterday, fellow Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg also weighed in, arguing that she doesn’t understand why we have this conversation once a year when you can see every day that there aren’t a lot of black people in movies. At one point almost six minutes in, her co-host Candace Cameron Bure looked visibly bored/uncomfortable, prompting Whoopi to say, “You know what? I talk about God, you gotta talk about these damn movies.

Apparently it wasn’t the conversation that turned Candace off; she was just sick!
