Thanks! And this is a custom mix of two Punky Colour shades (I don’t know which ones as this was done in a salon) that had faded out a bit. You can get a similar shade though with Pravana Locked-In Teal, I believe.

For some reason, I really love the name “Pan-Cake.” I always read it as “Pan [BEAT] Cake” in my head, like it’s some sort of failed breakfast food.

YES. What also helps is I just bought a tube of the Bite Opal lipstick and it’s like a toned-down version of the 60s white lips. So shimmery, so pretty, so weird.

Very true, and while makeup companies are getting better, it’s still a huge pain in the ass for WoC (especially those on the much darker end of the scale), especially since there are a lot of undertones that are also barely represented in foundation/face makeup shades. But yeah, there are still a lot of issues in the… Read more

Bite Beauty Agave Mask is super good at helping heal chapped lips (I accidentally wrote “crapped” lips at first, which is much worse). If you’re in Canada, check out the maple scented one. You only need a little bit but man, it has crazy staying power.

Glad you like them! And yeah, the wing is just meant to give the eye a little lift, rather than be a big swooping thing shooting out from the side (and again, I love me a good dramatic wing, but period-wise it is incorrect, but whatever GIVE ME MORE EYELINER). And do it! WEAR THE EYESHADOW. DON’T EVEN THINK JUST DO… Read more
Eyeshadow can be so tricky sometimes. The easiest way to start is with neutrals/browns/golds/pinks and then work out from there. Or, I mean, you could just do what I did as a child and buy shimmery light blue eyeshadow (Hard Candy, thank you very much, back when it was sold at Bloomingdales) and just fucking smear it… Read more
Personally, I love a lot of the MAC lipsticks, but Bite Beauty has some really wonderful “matte” lipsticks (I say “matte” because they are definitely not even close to being truly matte, but they are really pretty and wear nicely and the latest one I got smells like maple syrup). Clinque also does some good, simpler… Read more
I want to go into more detail, but I’m way tired so in the interest of not making this too incomprehensible I’ll give a bit of a shortened rundown for now, feel free to ask any questions you may have and I can answer after I get some sleep, haha: It was really still an era where - aside from a few companies, most of… Read more
Definitely! Just own it. I know there’s lot of talk about what is “right” or “proper” or whatever when it comes to makeup, but in the end it’s about what makes you feel comfortable or strong or badass or sexy or soft or however it is you want to feel. Makeup should be fun and be something that makes you feel good when…

Very true, and thanks for bringing that up. Also, if I try that my face goes “lol no” and immediately I’m ZIT CITY. Thanks for nothing, face.

Glad you liked it! As for false eyelashes, the 1960s was really when false eyelashes became a much more mainstream thing, but they were somewhat available in the 1930s-onward. The accepted history is that they were created in 1916 on the set of the film Intolerance when the director spirit glued bits of hair onto an… Read more
