A Journey Through Ted Cruz's Worst Tweets of 2022

A bold choice coming from Cancun Cruz.

Cruz tweeted a screenshot of a fake headline in The Atlantic, which he would have learned was fake if he took precisely 10 seconds to Google it. He captioned the photo: “the Left is beyond parody.” He did delete it, but without saying so. His defense? “Didn’t know it was fake. You guys are so insane, it could easily have been real. But it wasn’t. And so I deleted the tweet as soon as I found out.”

This was one of several misinformation-laden tweets he deleted in 2022, another was about migrants arriving in Martha’s Vineyard and one about the Canadian trucker convoy. (And of course there were more in 2021.)

*Taps earpiece* I’m hearing these are supposed to be funny.

Stacey Abrams, the Democratic nominee for governor in Georgia, made a forceful case in October that while midterm voters’ top concern was the economy, abortion is an economic issue, too, and should be a part of the conversation about the economy. But Republicans twisted her words and claimed that she suggested abortion was a solution to inflation, and Cruz was more than happy to pile on.

Ted desperately wanted the newly installed Twitter CEO to restore the account of disgraced Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson, who was suspended after he deadnamed and misgendered actor Elliot Page and said he’d “rather die” than delete it.

Ted likely thought this was a smart talking point, but he conveniently leaves out that now-Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was probably the first Supreme Court nominee to be asked this dumb-ass question.

Los Angeles Times photographer Kent Nishimura even captured Cruz searching Twitter for his name during Jackson’s hearings that day.

Only a clown would tag Elmo, a national treasure, in this vaccine-skeptic tweet.

Will you support family-friendly policies, Ted? You know, things like federal paid family leave, and the now-expired child tax credit?

This one aged like milk.

Cruz tweeted a screenshot of a thread from commentator Matt Walsh (real Poster behavior) in which Walsh said Pelosi’s attempted murder wasn’t evidence of Republican extremism, but of crime in cities with Democratic leaders. Walsh said: “Being that this is San Francisco, it seems perfectly plausible that some drugged out nutcase broke into their home. Trying to turn this San Francisco crime story into an indictment of Republicans is what’s implausible and ridiculous.” Cruz wrote “truth.” Actually, no, Pelosi’s attacker was steeped in right-wing conspiracy theories.

But the would-be attacker of Justice Brett Kavanaugh who never set foot on his property? That’s definitely the fault of Democrats.

During the disastrous rollout of the new Twitter Blue, where anyone could get “verified” for $8, someone posted this unfortunately believable tweet. To quote Ted, “it could easily have been real.”

In 2017, Cruz also made Twitter news—for liking a porn tweet on 9/11. We are legally required to mention it during any discussion of his tweets.
