I don’t really understand what ATTN: is (they call themselves an “issues-driven media company” with a “mission to deliver engaging content to a mobile-first audience,” though that’s just a meaningless series of words designed sound good to investors), but I do know they rack up serious Facebook views and that Catfish host Nev Schulman and his wife, copywriter Laura Perlongo, are constantly creating content for it.
The couple famously (to me, at least) revealed their pregnancy on the platform last year, and have filmed several videos for ATTN: over the past few months. Here’s one of Nev explaining why neo-Nazis are bad. And another one of Nev and Laura explaining why gender stereotypes are bad. Oh, and here’s one of Nev and Laura explaining why “spending time outdoors is good for girls.” (It was sponsored by REI.) But the couple’s next attempt at grabbing your ATTN: is a little different: it’s a Facebook webseries about relationship advice called We Need to Talk.
According to this Instagram post, We Need to Talk premieres “this week,” but additional details are scarce. Even a recent interview with Nev in Us Weekly meant to promote the show fails to provide any insight into what it’s actually about:
It’s basically a show about relationships. After the last five years, obviously helping people try to find love … what do you do when you do find it and you want to keep it? You gotta work through some s—t. This is a show that’s honest and sometimes a little embarrassing, but it’s real and it’s about the things that come up when you’re a couple.”
Let me get this straight: it’s a show “about relationships” that’s “honest” and “embarrassing” and “real” and “about the things that come up when you’re a couple.” Hmmm, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this before:
If you’re the kind of person who’s interested in getting relationship advice from the man responsible for the term “catfishing” (not to mention this) and the woman who married him, you can watch We Need to Talk when it premieres at some point this week—maybe, who knows—on ATTN:’s Facebook page.
