Gucci Goes Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuss

Alessandro Michele’s Gucci continues to do wild shit. In addition to mimicking a coat invented in the 1980s by Harlem fashion legend Dapper Dan—who styled the likes of Salt ‘n’ Pepa and LL Cool J in his own remixes of high fashion label knockoffs, in essence giving labels like Gucci and Louis Vuitton the street-style cool they now profit from—the Resort 2018 line seems to include an homage to Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuss, the “Z” creature in Dr. Seuss’s ABCs.

Well—perhaps not exactly, not at least as obviously as Gucci jacked Dapper Dan’s design, but that’s the first thought that came to the mind of my colleague Kelly Faircloth, who has read the book recently. (The first thought that came to my mind was, in fact, “What the shit is this.”) More importantly, where are Gucci shoppers going on their “Resort”? The Arctic Tundra? Siberia? Anyway, please imbibe this Zussian look. Based on other Gucci furs, I’m betting it will cost upwards of $30,000, for a piece you will no doubt want to wear forever.
