Hey, you know what stinks? A Yankee candle recall, that’s what.
If you were dreaming of scenting your home with America’s candle this holiday season, pull back. Check the barcodes. You might need to gift Yankee Candle with one of its own products as a garbage can stuffer. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for 31,000 candles sold in the U.S. and 300 in Canada, where they are freshening a few bear caves. Yankee Candle issued a statement explaining the danger isn’t the candle per se, but its unpredictable container:
The Yankee Candle Company, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission, is announcing a voluntary recall of the Luminous Collection candle. We have recently received consumer feedback regarding our new Luminous Collection candles which has indicated that when the candle is lit, the glass jar may crack, posing a possible laceration hazard.
At Yankee Candle we pride ourselves on having the highest standards of quality. Out of an abundance of caution and a firm commitment to safety, we have decided to request the immediate return of all Luminous Collection candles.
Here are all the great smells on the killer candle list:
- Sea Salt & Coral
- Blackberry & Sage
- Apple Blossom & Melon
- Sugarcane & Honey
- Pine & Sandalwood
And most cruelly of all this close to Christmas, Cinnamon & Cedar also poses a serious danger. President and CEO Hope Margala also said in her statement that buyers could return the candle to stores for a full $35 refund plus one free candle of their choosing, for the inconvenience. No injuries have been reported, so the inconvenience they’re referring to is driving back to Yankee Candle, not getting your hand sliced off. Be safe out there, candle lovers!
