Some Key Details About the Neighborhood Grocery Store Where Gwyneth Paltrow Wore a $530 Bikini

Gwyneth Paltrow, your frenemy and mine, is on the cover of the November issue of Harper’s Baazar. And while the interview with her was conducted by Samantha Bee (very nice, very well played), far more interesting is that the accompanying photo shoot has her posing in the Associated Supermarket on Manhattan Avenue in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, which one Jezebel staffer called “the worst grocery store in Greenpoint,” but which I will label “fine because it is very close to the B43 bus stop and also my gym.”

Things to know about this grocery store: if I were wearing a $3,000 Saint Laurent jacket no one would notice or care, but they might bat a lash at a $530 bikini, or “price upon request” jewelry. Otherwise, there are a lot of pierogis that I’ve never bought (though contemplated); the produce is lackluster; the meat is cheap. Once, while checking out, I saw a man have a loud freakout because he had left his iPad in one of the baskets (seen above) and then left the store, only to find when he returned to look for it that it was no longer around.

Other grocery store options in the neighborhood: another Jezebel staffer points out that “C-Town is the only one that’s not actively chilling” and though many people rave about “The Garden,” a trendier grocery store further down Manhattan Avenue, I found it lacking in necessary basics. Lastly, Greenpoint Natural Foods is supposedly—according to said Jezebel staffer—“pretty good but of course I would say that, I am horrible”). Also, she saw Juliette Lewis in line there the other day and “she looks weirdly great.”

Life is full of pros and cons.
