Late Thursday evening, in response to the Dallas shooting that killed five police officers and left others wounded, former congressman Joe Walsh declared war against Black Lives Matter protestors and the President of the United States.
Throughout the night, Walsh continued to tweet unhinged sentiments, including “Obama has BLOOD ON HIS HANDS,” “10 Cops shot. You did this Obama. You did this liberals. You did this #BLM,” and “4 Dallas Cops assassinated tonight. Blacks [sic] lives matter cheers. LGBT blames Christians. Obama defends Islam.”
After criticism, Walsh deleted the tweet, and later clarified that the initial declaration of war wasn’t a threat of violence.
Walsh gained a reputation while in office for aligning himself with a group of politicians who showed themselves to be rape apologists just before the 2012 election (which Walsh lost to Rep. Tammy Duckworth). Walsh, who is pro-life without exception, also somehow misinterpreted science so grossly that he stated publicly that it was virtually impossible for a woman to die from a pregnancy.
“This is an issue that opponents of life throw out there to make us look unreasonable,” he said, of abortions that are necessary to save the life of the mother. “There’s no such exception as life of the mother. And as far as health of the mother, same thing. With advances in science and technology, health of the mother has become a tool for abortions any time for any reason.”
He also wondered aloud in an interview why everyone was piling on Todd Akin for his comments about “legitimate rape,” and said that reproductive rights activist Sandra Fluke should “get a job.”
And now he has tweeted a very telling statement that the President is not considered part of Joe Walsh’s “real America,” which we must then infer (as he certainly is not considering women here) consists only of white men. What a place that country must be!
