Scarlett Johansson is both a pulchritudinous flower and the highest grossing actress of all time, a distinction made somewhat annoying by the fact that there are still nine men separating her from the top spot. But I guess we’re supposed to be celebrating this news, so OK, let’s get to it!
Box Office Mojo reports that ScarJo has pulled in an impressive $3.3 billion in box office revenue over the course of her long and varied career. Though she’s still got a ways to go before she’ll overtake the likes of Tom Hanks and Samuel L. Jackson, Johansson has the advantage of being only 31, meaning she’ll still be raking it in while those old heads are doddering about in their Fendi diapers.
In April, Johansson spoke to Cosmopolitan about Hollywood’s cavernous wage gap:
“I am very fortunate. I make a really good living, and I’m proud to be an actress who’s making as much as many of my male peers at this stage.
“I think every woman has [been underpaid], but unless I’m addressing it as a larger problem, for me to talk about my own personal experience with it feels a little obnoxious. It’s part of a larger conversation about feminism in general.”
She also beat out Brad Pitt, which I find strangely pleasing. Onward!
