Here Is the First Mesmerizing Trailer for Michael Fassbender's Macbeth

Something wicked this way comes, and that, my friends, is fantastic. The trailer for the newest Macbeth adaption, starring gorgeous creatures Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, awaits you on YouTube. Your heart will race for its duration.

Directed by Justin Kurtzel, the film garnered praise at the Cannes Film Festival. Judging by the trailer alone, its positive reception is unsurprising. At a breathless pace the trailer promises sinister beauty and blood, humanity stripped of all but visceral desires. As Lady MacBeth, Cotillard simultaneously evokes both the Virgin Mary and Morgan Le Fay.

According to GQ, Macbeth will be Fassbender’s defining role. Those of us partial to the Victorian period film might have difficulty conceiving him as anyone other than Jane Eyre’s Rochester, but I for one am perfectly content to have the option. (As you watch the trailer, keep your eyes peeled for a flash of shirtless Fassbender.)

Macbeth will be released in the U.S. on December 4th. You can memorize your favorite Shakespearean monologue in the meantime.
