Not sure if you caught last night's Emmys, also known as three hours of Breaking Bad winning everything, but the world just realized Cary Joji Fukunaga is hot. Welcome to the party, guys. The True Detective director won an award but what he really received was the Internet's collective panties.
On Monday night, Fukunaga accepted a trophy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series on the intense HBO show and when he walked to the podium, a burst of light flashed across the screen, Twitter took in a collective sharp breath and touched themselves.
Us Weekly immediately dug around on Cary and remembered they'd written about him before the Emmys, when he was still a regular human.
Fukunaga, who is half Swedish, half Japanese, dated Michelle Williams briefly in 2011. Speaking in the past of his romantic prowess, Fukunaga revealed, "I’ve written immense love letters that are supposed to be opened over days at a time. I used to always make art for girls. That was the thing I did for girls to like me. I did portraits, drawings, letters that formed outlines of significant things in our relationship. Art. I just used art in general. It usually worked."
Love letters? Drawings? Michelle, call Cary back, you need him in your life.
Honestly Cary looks like 50-11 dudes I went to school with, so, you know, if you like Cary, maybe you should visit Northern California. We're awash in Cary's. Also, the longer hair really works for him and so do his Malcolm X inspired glasses.
On a professional note, it's a shame this newly lusted after Fukunaga won't be directing True Detective's second season because I am worried. Come back, Cary! We need your talent and your face!
